A Long Overdue "What have we been up too" Summer Time Blog Update

Updated: Oct 31

Yes, it's been an amazingly fast & very busy 6+ months since the website relaunch and our apologies for the delay in getting some updates out to our wonderful supporters on what we have been up to at Furgotten Friends Dog Rescue.

Adoptions:

The good news is that we have had 25 of our rescue's placed in forever homes! Since that is the primary goal of our rescue, we are extremely happy to update you on our adoptions over the past 6 months.

Here are just a few of that wonderful group of folks who said "Yes!" we want to adopt one of your rescue's and give them a forever home & family!

That's Poppy above and Snow in the top right with Noelle directly to the right.

That's Harley to the right and below Harley is Tulip.

Directly below is Laverne followed by Sierra.

And last but not least, below is Katie.

As mentioned at the beginning of this blog post, finding forever homes for our rescue's is our primary mission. So we are incredibly thankful and appreciative of all our adoption families. Thank you again for giving our dogs their forever home and family.

In addition to our adoptions, we have been busy with upgrades and improvements to our rescue facilities, including improved shelters and shading as well as upgrades in the exercise areas. Every rescue is given a full vet examination, cleared of any parasites and/or infections of any type and brought up-to-date with the required vaccinations. This is an absolute requirement for each and every one of our rescues. In addition as soon as a rescue is of an appropriate age, they are spayed or neutered to prevent an unexpected increase in our rescue population.

Donations & Sponsors:

It is no secret that inflation and the current economic situation creates a hardship for the majority of us. And although we are fortunate as a non-profit in that we can sometimes obtain favorable pricing, veterinarian's, food and care suppliers all have payroll, supply & overhead costs as well and must make a profit. So our rescue has been under considerable financial constraints these past several months, primarily due to unexpected vet medical costs that many of our rescues required.

We would also like to point out that at Furgotten Friends Dog Rescue, our team is comprised of 100% unpaid volunteers. So 100% of your funding/donations goes to the care, feeding & related support of our rescues!

Therefore, we have a couple requests of you, our supporters:

1 - When & wherever possible, please shop, use & support our sponsors. Their donations are a critical to our rescue operations. Please check out our sponsors at the following link:

2 - If you have the financial means we are requesting your donation support. We use the GiveButter organization as they provide non-profits an easy to use donation collection vehicle and more importantly they allow us to offer a monthly donation option.

So if you have the ability to donate monthly - $5, $10, $20 or more, we would be most appreciative of your generosity and it would help significantly in allowing us to budget costs efficiently. The "donate" button is conveniently located in the top right corner of every page on our website.

We also want to acknowledge our team of volunteers at our rescue. As mentioned previously our volunteers give generously of their time & knowledge, assisting with our rescues and various adoption events. Unfortunately many of our rescues have suffered neglect & mistreatment. Our volunteers use their knowledge & experience to help with human and dog socialization and address other issues that the rescue may have. This helps with restoring our rescue's innate human connection and obviously makes them a more "adoptable" dog.

However these things do take time to repair which is why we are most thankful for those family's that choose to adopt a more challenging rescue and are willing to invest the time and effort in rebuilding that bond.

Like any worthwhile relationship, building & establishing that bond of love & loyalty that is so very unique to dogs is what makes our relationship with dogs so incredibly rewarding!

In Conclusion:

So to conclude this blog post on a more "upbeat & positive" note, we want to step a bit outside the "rescue" box we live in at Furgotten Friends Dog Rescue and contemplate why we do what we do?

Clearly the reason is because we love dogs and place a high value on that bond of love & loyalty that dogs uniquely give to us undeserving humans.

To that end we invite you to click on & scroll thru the link below. It is a true story written by Sam Anderson that in our opinion perfectly encapsulates and explains the joy & wonder of our relationship with our dogs and is beautifully illustrated by Gaia Alari.

We believe that it will melt your hearts as it did ours! Thank you again for your support & donations to our dogs!
